FREE Virtual Race
Hey Everyone!
Wow, how crazy the last week has been. I know that a lot of us are either on lockdown or practicing social distancing. My state has not officially declared a lockdown. I am however following social distancing, by not leaving my house for anything but the essentials. I think that it is very important in order to save the lives of our loved ones.
I don’t know about you guys, but I love to go to the gym. This time has been interesting to say the least. I used to go to the gym 4-5 days a week and snowboard the other 2 days. Obviously with everything being closed, I haven’t been able to do either of those things. I have learned how to be creative!
My mom messaged me on Sunday about a FREE Virtual Race that RunTheEdge.com is doing. You can register for a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Marathon, or an Ultra Marathon. They run for four weeks and start at the beginning of April. You can run as many races as you would like! You can run these races anywhere, outside or inside. You can even run on a treadmill (if you are lucky enough to have your own). You can track your miles with a fitness watch or even enter them manually.
I think that these events look really fun and it can be something to motivate you to stay fit during this weird time. I am going to run a 5K each week for three weeks and then a 10K for the final week. You can register at the link below.

Incredible Instant Pot
Hey Everyone!
Today I am talking about one of my favorite presents I have ever gotten, my Instant Pot. Shane got it for me for Christmas but since we knew around that time that we would be moving soon, I decided to leave it in the box. When we moved into our new house, it was one of the things I was so excited to try out. It ended up being one of the first boxes we opened. I had heard all of the hype around them and I couldn’t wait any longer to try it out.
I absolutely love it. One of the things that I used to struggle with was remembering to get the meat out of the freezer to thaw out either the morning of or the night before. I don’t like to go to the store everyday so we usually keep a good amount of meat frozen in our freezer. With the instant pot, most of the time you can cook your meat from completely frozen.
They have so many good recipes on Pinterest, so it makes it really easy to decide what to eat for the night. Most of the time, I have all the ingredients already so it makes it really easy. Over the next few weeks, you should be seeing some really easy recipes to make in the instant pot. I am so obsessed. They cook in a fraction of the time and taste so good! I can’t wait to share them with you.
Somethings I have learned. Don’t ever put milk in for a substitute while pressure cooking. The milk curdles and your whole meal will have to be tossed. I tried to do that for a substitute for heavy cream and that is absolutely a terrible idea. I also learned to use the exact type of meat. I substituted chicken tenderloins for chicken breasts and they were no where near cooked when I took them out. I had to improvise at that point. Also make sure that you can use frozen meat for your specific recipe, sometimes you cannot depending on what you are making.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Let me know in the comments below what kinds of recipes you want.
Also let me know if you love or hate your Instant Pot. If you want to see more posts, please subscribe below. It would mean the world to me. I’ve also left a link below to the exact one that wehave, if you are interested. I do get compensated if you use my link.[email-subscribers-form id=”1″]

Focus on Positivity
Today I am going to talk about focusing on positivity to help with self-care. I know that some people think that this topic is taboo, but let me tell you. I’ve been on both sides. I’ve been at the lowest low and the highest high and I think that focusing on positivity is a choice. We are all given things to deal with in our life. We all have bad things happen. The only thing we can control is how we react.
“What you choose to focus on becomes your reality”- Unknown
I believe that setbacks are not always a bad thing, it is an opportunity to learn and grow. You can learn from everything. For example, I was in a terrible relationship with a man that I believe truly did not care about me or my well-being. After our relationship, I thought it was the end of the world. I honestly never thought I would escape the debilitating depression I was in. One day, I finally stopped feeling so sorry for myself and discovered how lucky I was that I just went through a bad breakup and not a divorce. I was lucky to not spend even one more second with someone who could not see my value.
I like to think that I used my experience to grow as a person. Now, I am even more grateful for the small things that my husband Shane does for me. I made certain that the person I was going to spend my life with was the right person for me. I gave myself space and time to heal, and now I know how to get through whatever life throws my way.
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” -Socrates
I’ve learned a lot about this topic from my husband Shane. He never lets anything stop him! Every time something bad happens, he doesn’t even bat an eye. He inspires me to try harder to focus on the positive every single day. I will share a few examples that I have.
One time, we missed our flight to LA. I was freaking out; I didn’t know what to do. Shane very calmly got in line to talk to an airline representative. We paid a little bit of money (maybe $50) and we had new flights to LA. Yes, we were a few hours later, but everything ended up working out just fine.
This past September, Shane and I went to Hawaii. On the flight there, Shane’s tooth started to ache immensely. By the time we actually landed, his face had swollen a ton. We had to make an emergency dentist appointment for the next morning. It was a failed root canal, so Shane actually had to get his tooth pulled. Did he let it ruin our whole vacation? Nope. The day after he had his tooth pulled, he was ready for the next adventure. He did not let it faze him one bit. People are amazed when they hear this story. Before I tell them the ending, people are always saying “I bet that ruined your whole vacation.” Not even close.
So how can you practice focusing on positivity?
When something happens that is not ideal, see what your first thought is. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had thoughts like “here we go again” or “that just ruined my …”. When these thoughts come to your mind, stop them. Try to think things like “what can I learn from this” or “what can I do to prevent this from happening again”.
Accept that whatever happened, happened and move on. You get to control how you react. Do you want to draw more negative things toward you? You can even feel the bad emotions for a few seconds, if it makes you feel better, but then choose to put those aside and move forward.
Try to find the silver lining in the situation. Sometimes I know this is very hard, but most of the time you can find something. I catch myself thinking things like, “well maybe if I had left at that exact moment, something bad would have happened to me”. I know it sounds weird but it really helps me to get over simple problems.
Ask yourself honestly if you are overreacting. I know when something goes wrong this is usually me. I forgot my coat at home, so I guess this ruins my whole day since I don’t get to go snowboarding now. Why couldn’t I just go home and get it?
Am I perfect with practicing this? Absolutely not. I struggle every day with it, but I always try to choose to focus on the positive. Sometimes, I still need help. All you have to do is make an effort to try and it will help you so much.
I hope that you enjoyed today’s post. Please let me know in the comments below what you think about this. If you loved today’s post please subscribe, it would really mean a lot to me.

Strong Shoulders
Hey Everybody!!
Today’s workout is all about working out your shoulders! This workout is with free weights and a cable machine. You can always alter my workout if you only want to use the cable machine or only free weights. You just do the same movements. I like to switch it up so that I don’t get bored. I like to do these around 1-2 times a week, as it fits in my workout regimen. I also change the amount of weight I am lifting, based on how I am feeling that day. Most of these I use 5-10 pounds, except shoulder press I do 20-30 pounds. Remember to always listen to your body, which will decrease your risk of injury.
Do 4 sets of the following:
10 Cable Front Raise
10 Standing Dumbbell Lateral Raise (you can do this with cable’s as well, one arm at a time)
10 Dumbbell Shoulder Press
I have included a video below so you can see what each of these looks like.
If you loved today’s workout please subscribe below and leave a comment. I love hearing what all of you have to say. I would really appreciate it!

Fat Gripz
Hey Everybody!
Today I am writing about an awesome addition to your gym bag. I never go to the gym without them! They are the Fat Gripz!
I have long fingers so I find that every time I am lifting my nails are digging into my palms. It is super uncomfortable but with my Fat Gripz it doesn’t happen anymore. I also have noticed that it helps me to pay closer attention to keeping my wrists straight while lifting. This helps me to not injure my elbow further (I have golfers’ elbow). FatGripz.com states “Many people use thick bar training because of how fast it adds muscle to their body compared to standard bar but many lifters report that thick bar training has actually helped (and presumably therefore, reduced the chance of) all types of injuries including wrist, elbow and shoulders issues. It seems that thick bars shift the stress off the joints and onto the muscles which is, of course, exactly what we want.”
I absolutely love how versatile they are. You can put them on almost anything at the gym. My husband and I use them on dumbbells, barbells, cables, and some cable grips. You can even use them on pull up bars.
They have different widths of grips depending on what you are looking for. I use the Fat Gripz One which are 1.75 inches in diameter and are made for functional training. They have a 2.25 and a 2.75-inch option as well. They also have a lifetime warranty on them so you don’t have to worry about having to buy another set unless you want a different width.
Using a fatter grip also helps you to increase muscle activation. FatGripz.com states “Fat Gripz / thick bars develop levels of muscle and strength that cannot be duplicated with standard equipment. It is not uncommon for even an experienced lifter to make significant muscle gains in just a few months by switching to thick bars.”
I have attached the link below if you would like to try them! Thank you for reading today’s blog. I hope you enjoyed it. If you did, leave a comment below!

Tasty Tilapia
Hey Everybody!
Today’s recipe is one for tasty tilapia. I love this recipe because it is so easy to make. It’s one that I came up with on my own, after trying many recipes that I didn’t like. This recipe makes about four servings.
This recipe generally takes only about 20 minutes from start to finish.
Ingredients
4 Filets of Tilapia (I like to use Costco’s pre-packaged filets)
1 Egg
¼ Cup of Grated Parmesan Cheese
1 Tsp. Oregano
½ Tsp. Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
1½ Cups of Minute Brown Rice
1½ Cups of Water
1 Can of Del Monte French Cut Sea Salt Green Beans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425⸰F.
- Start boiling your water in a pan.
- In a rectangle shaped container, whisk your egg (if it doesn’t whisk well, add a little bit of water).
- In a separate rectangle shaped container, mix your parmesan cheese, oregano, and garlic powder.
- When the water starts to boil add your rice, stir, put your lid on top, and remove from heat. (You want to do this near the beginning as brown rice takes longer to soak up the water).
- Now you want to get your baking sheet ready, I like to line mine with tin foil for easy clean up.
- Next, we will batter our fish. Take a filet, dip it in the whisked egg, dip it in the parmesan cheese mixture, then set it on the baking sheet. Repeat for other four.
- Once your oven is preheated, you can put your fish in. Cook for 10-12 minutes. (Check that the internal temperature has reached 145⸰F, I will insert the thermometer I use below.)
- Now heat your beans in a separate pan on medium low.
- When the fish is done, everything else should be as well. I add a little bit of lemon juice to garnish both my fish and my rice. I also sometimes add a little spray butter to my rice and beans. Enjoy!
I really enjoy this recipe and I hope you do too. Let me know what you think about this recipe in the comments below. If you love this please subscribe as well!

Majestic Massage
Hey Everyone! Today I am talking about using massage for self-care! I believe that it is very important to incorporate into your life. I will also talk about how you could potentially more easily afford it.
There are so many benefits to massage. Massage can help reduce anxiety and depression. It can help to reduce cortisol (up to 50%), which in turn can increase your serotonin levels. This is the chemical that regulates mood. Through doing these things, massage can also help to regulate your sleep!! Massage can improve your immune function. It can help to stimulate the production of more white blood cells, which will help your body to fight off infections. The decreased cortisol (stress) can also help your body to stay strong and fight off diseases. Massage can help to reduce pain, acute or chronic. By improving your bodies circulation, it helps to get your blood flowing to the affected area, therefore aiding in the healing process by increasing the oxygen and nutrients.
Did you know that you can use your health savings account for massage? That means that the money that you used for your massage was tax free! If you are worried that your company will not approve this, explain this to your primary care provider. Mine happily wrote me a “prescription” for massage.
I actually have committed to monthly massages at Massage Envy here in Utah! Through a membership like this, I stay more committed to getting my massage each month. When I walk out of my current appointment, I make my appointment for the next month. Massage Envy has locations all over the US and you can use your membership at any location. Your first hour massage for each month is covered in your membership fee, and each additional service you get is deeply discounted.
I look forward to my next massage each month. I can’t wait to relieve my stress and the tension that my muscles have built up over the month. I do this to maintain where I am at, if you have an injury that needs to be worked you would need to get massages more frequently.
I hope you found value in today’s post, please comment below if you did. If you love the content, please subscribe below. I love to provide you with free health and wellness tips each week.

Daily Cardio
Hi Everyone!
Today’s workout post is going to be a little bit different. I usually post a video of a workout for a muscle group but today I am going to educate you on the benefits of doing cardio and the different things you can do for it.
So first I am going to focus on the benefits of doing cardio. It really helps to burn calories and fat for weight loss. It can boost your endorphins, which will make you feel happier throughout your day. It makes your heart stronger so it doesn’t have to work as hard day to day. It can help you sleep better at night. It can help to increase your lung capacity. I have noticed this in my personal experience. As I started to incorporate some cardio into my daily routine, I noticed that I didn’t have to use my inhaler as much. (I have exercise induced asthma).
Now I am going to share some of my favorite types of cardio. They are: running inside or outside, walking inside or outside, using the Stairmaster, running or walking on the elliptical, snowboarding, swimming, and dancing. I really aim to do at least 10-15 minutes of cardio each day. Cardio can really be anything that gets your heart rate up. Get creative!

Awesome Apple Watch
Hey Everyone!
Today, I am talking about something that at this point, I don’t think I could live without, my Apple Watch. Last Christmas, I asked for an Apple Watch. I didn’t need the newest or the best one, I just wanted to see what all the hype was about. I ended up getting the Nike + Series 3 42MM, GPS & Cellular watch. I loved the band on the Nike+ series, so that’s why I went for this watch. I also bought it off of Amazon, which ended up making it a lot cheaper. I will link it below.
So why do I love my watch so much? I have so many reasons and I will outline them here. The first is that it can track how many active calories you have burned. The watch let’s you set a goal of how many “active” calories you would like to burn a day and it helps you to keep track of what you are at. I actually keep this tracker on my watch face so I can constantly see where I am at. I am a super competitive person, so I really try to hit my goal each day. Currently, mine is set at 700 active calories. It has settings for different workouts you might do. My most frequently used workouts are: snowboarding, indoor running, outdoor running, strength training, stair stepper, and elliptical. These are just a few of the options that are available.
You can link it to your phone. This is really nice for working out as well. I can change the song that is playing through my AirPods on my phone from my watch. This is really nice when you need a song that is a little more upbeat and you are in the middle of a set or something. I can also see my texts on my watch and see if I need to get back to it quickly or not. You can even reply to texts on your watch, but I only use this feature if it’s short.
It can track how far you’ve run. While I was training for the marathon that I ran last year, this was crucial. I could see exactly how far I had already run, what my time was, and what I was averaging per mile. At each mile, it makes a sound so you know that you have completed another mile. I know that there are more accurate watches out there for tracking your distance, so if that is the sole purpose of getting a fitness watch I would suggest doing more research.
It’s
water resistant . If you use the water lock feature on the watch, you can swim and shower with it on. I have done this multiple times, with no issues. I love being able to be at the pool and know what time it is. The feature releases internal water when you are finished. It cannot however be taken into deep water, like scuba diving. It helps me remember things. You can set reminders in your watch for anything. They pop up with a vibration or noise, depending on what you want. I am constantly doing many activities each day and this feature really keeps me on track. You can also set timers on your watch. I also use this very frequently. I have to wait certain amounts of time for doing things with my job and this feature keeps me right on track.
It is convenient. I get a lot of calls for work, so when someone calls and I am busy doing something, I can simply look down at my watch and see if it’s something I need to answer or not. I get at least three scam calls a day, so it’s very nice to not have to find my phone each time.
I have learned that I actually didn’t need things that I got. I learned that I don’t actually need cellular data on my watch. It cost’s about $20 a month and the only time you would need that would be if your phone was nowhere near you. The watch that has cellular available also costs more. I also learned that I don’t like having a screen protector on my watch. It makes it really hard to use. I ripped it off after using one for less than a week. I really don’t think you need to buy the newest or best one out there. Mine works very well and I am two series behind what has been released.
If you want to buy an apple watch here is the link to the one that I have (without cellular since I wouldn’t get it if I could go back and also a little smaller). If you use this link, I do get compensated.
I hope you found this helpful. If you have an apple watch already, let’s hear what you love or hate about yours in the comments below.
